Components of Delta 8 and Delta 9
Currently there is a lot of discussion on the benefits and differences of Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC. We decided to delve into the world of Delta to find how these how the two strains vary. To understand the differences, we need to look at the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is powerful and found in almost all parts of the nervous system. The cannabinoid receptors are dispersed throughout different regions of the brain and are responsible for regulation of several parts of neuronal activity. This explains the bewildering variety of behavioral and psychological effects caused by THC in different ways for different people.
The (ECS) is a bodily system, much like the immune or digestive systems, and it features cannabinoid receptors throughout the body (CB1 and CB2) specially designed to accept phytocannabinoids (produced in the trichomes of a cannabis plant) and endocannabinoids (such as CBD). These receptors form bonds with cannabinoids and manifest a specific reaction – this explains why we get calm and soothing sensations when we consume cannabis.
ECS binds with plenty of cannabinoids, but it produces a different reaction with each one of them. These reactions are created based on the level of THC. Delta 8 and Delta 9
The difference between Delta 8 THC and Delta 9 THC is subtle and insignificant in the overall chemistry of it. Still, it’s particularly important in determining the effects these compounds will produce. Both are isomers of THC, but the main difference lies in their chemical bonds – Delta 8 THC has a double bond on the eighth carbon chain, while Delta 9 THC has the same double bond on the ninth carbon chain. This makes a difference in the level of potency when it connects with the cannabinoids in the body.
Delta 9 THC binds with our CB1 receptors, mostly found throughout the body and the brain. The effect is quite strong because of the double bond on the ninth carbon chain. Delta 9 THC is also present in the cannabis plant in extremely high quantities, which means effects are strong. This generates a general feeling of relaxation when we consume cannabis, which is known to help with stress, sadness, and some kinds of pains or ailments. Too much Delta-9-THC has its downsides. It can sometimes spark paranoia and anxiety or dizziness and headaches. Much of the cannabis sold legally in the U.S. contains a high THC concentration.
Delta 8 THC is found in the cannabis plant in much lower quantities, is less potent, and it also tends to bind with CB2 receptors. CB2 receptors are most present throughout the body’s organs & extremities, like in the digestive tract and the immune system.
Many cannabis fans are turning to Delta-8-THC. Many people claim that Delta-8 is a smoother, less anxious psychoactive experience than the more familiar Delta-9. It also seems to have additional medicinal effects than regular THC, such as better pain relief, but these claims have yet to be weighed out in clinical trials. Delta-8 is quickly becoming a trendy new cannabis product. It is showing up in many products such as vape cartridges, soft drinks, gummies, and tinctures.
